Biographical SketchJ.D. Freeman was a longtime Texas surveyor, with a longstanding interest in historical Texas surveys. He also acted as a consultant engineer, researching material on various historical subjects for the General Land Office. He was married to Delma Turnbow Freeman, a genealogist and author. Freeman Papers, 1898-1972, include correspondence, maps, legal documents, surveys and survey notes, photographs, and other business records in both original and photocopy form. The papers document the activities of the surveying profession in Texas during the early to mid 20th century and also provide important information, mainly through notes and photocopies, on historical surveys of selected Texas counties and cities, including Austin. Furthermore, the papers are an important source of information on the history of surveying and land ownership in Texas.
