The J.D. Freeman Papers, 1898-1972, include correspondence, maps, legal documents,
surveys and survey notes, photographs, and other business records in both original
and photocopy form. The papers document the activities of the surveying profession
in Texas during the early to mid 20th century and also provide important
information, mainly through notes and photocopies, on historical surveys of selected
Texas counties and cities, including Austin. Furthermore, the papers are an important source of information on the history of surveying and land ownership
in Texas.
