A Guide to the Texas Letters Collections, 1857-1861
Biographical NoteMiles Parson, James G. Mahaffy, and William C. McCarty were Texas settlers. Mahaffy and McCarty were originally from Tennessee. Scope and ContentsCorrespondence comprise the Texas Letters Collection, 1857-1861, containing letters written by Tennessee immigrants in Texas describing conditions in Caldwell, Hays, Hopkins, and Hunt counties. Additionally, a letter written by Miles Parsons documents Sam Houston’s inauguration as Governor of Texas and conditions in Texas (January 1860).
