				correspondence, committee minutes, memoranda, legislative files, membership rolls,
				TACT publications, and tapes of State Meetings. </abstract>

			<head>Biographical Note</head>
			<p>The Texas Association of College Teachers (TACT) was founded in 1948 to serve as a
				voluntary organization of faculty, librarians, and research personnel in public
				colleges and universities in Texas. Its main functions are to lobby the state
				legislature in matters concerning higher education and to inform its membership of
				pertinent news including legislative action on salary increases, questions of
				academic freedom, and comparisons of pension plans.</p>

			<head>Scope and Contents</head>
			<p>The Texas Association of College Teachers Records, 1946-1992, consist of
				organizational records including office files, correspondence, committee minutes,
				memoranda, legislative files, membership rolls, TACT publications, and tapes of
				State Meetings. The records pertain to TACT’s communication with political
				candidates and the Texas Legislative Council; financial materials including audits,
				bank statements, budgets, taxes, and accounts information; and the many colleges and
				universities in Texas. Furthermore, the records include a TACT publication, <emph
					render="italic">Fifty Years of Success: The First Fifty Years of the Texas
					Association of College Teachers</emph> (1997). </p>
