A Guide to the Matagorda, Texas, Letterhead
Helmuth Heinrich Diedrich Holtz (1833-1915) was an artist, sailor and Union soldier who was born in Schleswig. He visited Texas ports in 1860 and made sketches of Indianola and Matagorda that were later turned into lithographs.
Letterhead (undated) depicts the following buildings in Matagorda, Texas: church, Masonic Hall, hotel and main street, courthouse, residence of Col. R. H. Williams, and store of Mr. G. Burkhart. The original drawings from which this lithograph was made are by Helmuth Holtz.
