At the June 1994 AFPAAA conference
(San Antonio) it was proposed that an Oral History Program be started to collect
first-person accounts of the evolution of public affairs in the USAF. This
collection includes 13 transcripts of oral history interviews with USAF
officers.
Historical Sketch
At the June 1994 Air Force Public Affairs Alumni Association conference in San
Antonio, the membership agreed that a history of USAF Public Affairs should be a
priority. As part of that effort, an Oral History Program was proposed to collect
first-person accounts of the evolution of public affairs in the USAF. The AFPAAA
Oral History Program accumulates and preserves first-person historical accounts of
public affairs events, activities, and related periods in the lives of selected
interview subjects.
Scope and Contents
The Air Force Public Affairs Alumni Association Oral History Program Collection
contains thirteen interview transcripts. These transcripts include interviews with
Colonel Barney Oldfield; Lt. Col. Maston Jacks; Brig Gen. Michael P. Mike McRaney; Lt. Col. Gil Billings; Colonel Willis
Bill Helmantoler; Colonel Aubrey Cookman
(USAFR); Brig. Gen. Richard Dick Abel; Lt. Col.
George Weiss; Colonel William F. McGinty; Colonel Robert Hermann; Lt. Gen. Maurice
F. Casey; Colonel Jack Rose; and Maj. Gen. Henry L. Hogan.
