Biographical Note

Philip Crosby Tucker III’s father was Philip Crosby Tucker, Jr. (1826–1894), Confederate war veteran, pioneer Mason, Galveston lawyer, and appointed secretary of the Galveston Historical Society. Tucker and his father managed the Society from 1888 to 1894, preserving many valuable documents. Philip Crosby Tucker III inherited the minutes, records, and many materials from the Galveston Historical Society.

Scope and Contents

The Philip Crosby Tucker III Papers, 1837-1932, contain letters, minutes, court records, lists, rosters, a ship's log, a scrapbook, literary productions, and newspaper clippings from the Galveston Historical Society. The papers relate to "History of Galveston" and other literary productions, lists of lots on Galveston Island with names of original purchasers, roster of Galveston Fusiliers and incomplete minutes of the organization, log of the steamship Lafitte, scrapbook of news clippings of biographies of early Texans, Galveston Historical Society minutes, wharves in Galveston, Galveston County Court records, and court action of Forbes vs. Labadie (1866).
