Scope and Contents

Letters from Jestin C. Hampton, Grayson County, Virginia, to her husband in camp
during the Civil War, concern family news, conditions of the crops and general farm
affairs, health, news of the slaves and neighbors, and her desire for the war to be
ended. Letters from Thomas B. Hampton, in camp throughout Virginia, Georgia, North
and South Carolina, to his wife relate to his life in camp, health of the company,
activities of the company in battles, and advice as to carrying on affairs at home
in his absence. Throughout them all there is a decided religious tone, resigning his
fate to the will of God.
