Robert Hagan, of Louisiana, was an Assistant Surgeon with the Pennsylvania Volunteers in the 14th Infantry Regiment in the Mexican-American War, 1847-1848.

 Scope and Contents

Papers include Hagan's diary of the march of the 14th Infantry Regiment from Vera Cruz to Mexico City, June 26, 1847-July 17, 1848; a list of officers of the Regiment; distances marched; an account of later careers of the officers, Feb. 10, 1858; and typescripts of the above items.

Hagan's diary more specifially relates to the Regiment's landing at Vera Cruz; battles of Contreras and Cherbusco; truces and hostilities; description of Mexico City; the march back to Vera Cruz; a visit to Jalapa; and the return to New Orleans. Also included are the distances from Vera Cruz to Mexico City; and notes on war and post-war services of the officers, largely from Tennessee and Louisiana.
