			<head>Biographical Note</head>
			<p>Annie B. Giles was the daughter of Austin residents Valerius Cincinnatus Giles
				(1842-1915) and his wife Lou Barnhart Giles. Valerius, a Confederate veteran, and his
				wife, a founding member of the Albert Sidney Johnston Chapter of the United
				Daughters of the Confederacy, were active on behalf of Confederate veterans and
				instrumental in the founding and administration of the Confederate Home for Men
				(1887) and the Confederate Woman’s Home (1908) in Austin, Texas.</p>

			<head>Scope and Contents</head>
			<p>The Annie B. Giles Papers relate primarily to the lives and activities of Austin
				residents Valerius Cincinnatus Giles (1842-1915) and his wife Lou Barnhart Giles, as
				well as the Giles and Barnhart families and the Civil War. </p>
			<p>Civil War materials include rosters and narratives related to Hood’s Texas Brigade
				and the First Texas Regiment, as well as material concerning the Confederate flag
				and constitution, the Battle of Gettysburg, and the Civil War drawings of Valerius
				Giles. Also included are newspaper clippings of Valerius Giles’s experiences in the
				Civil War. The papers consist of correspondence, biographical and historical
				narratives, photographs, obituaries, marriage record, newspaper clippings, rosters,
				pencil drawings, account books, scrapbook, and memorabilia.</p>
