A Guide to the Elbert Macby Barron Collection, 1845-1971
Biographical NoteElbert Macby Barron, 1904-1969, was a representative to the Forty-second and Forty-third Texas Legislatures from Grayson and Collin counties. A resident of Van Alstyne in his early years, Barron practiced law in Sherman before going to Washington, D. C., to work with the War and Navy Departments and the Securities and Exchange Commission. In 1944 as a colonel in the U. S. Army, he served in the South Pacific. After 1947, he lived at El Paso and was president of Southern Gem Mining Company, importers and purveyors of gems and minerals. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and ContentsThe Elbert Macby Barron Collection, 1845-1971, includes correspondence, diary, photographs, legal documents, and other items relating to his army career, gem and mineral business, family, and friends. The bulk of the collection documents Barron’s professional endeavors with the Southern Gem Mining Company, and is comprised of alphabetically arranged classified correspondence files and alphabetically arranged financial records consisting largely of receipts and correspondence. The remainder of the collection contains personal materials such as individual and group photographs of friends and family, photos of places and things, legal documents, certificates, diplomas, cards, and a family bible.
