			<p>William Seward Pierson, Jr. (1815-1879) was an attorney and financier who conducted a
				variety of political, business, and land dealings in Texas during 1842-1879.
				Furthermore, he was an officer and Commanding Officer in the Civil War.</p>

			<head>Scope and Contents</head>
			<p>The William Pierson Collection, 1795-1906, includes correspondence, legal papers,
				financial papers, printed materials, land documents, broadsides, newspapers, and
				maps relating to Pierson's business and political activities. Specifically, the
				collection pertains to business dealings with S. M. Swenson; the Kidd Salvage
				Project; the Wildman Mills-Pierson partnership; Pierson's dealings in railroads; his
				assignment during the Civil War; his partnership with Pitt Cooke; and Texas
				legislative documents and maps. The collection also includes the wills of Pierson
				and his father, inventories and division of their respective estates, and other
				personal correspondence. </p>
