Scope and Contents

Posters, fliers, maps, memos, orders of the day, articles of surrender, and Emrich’s journal compose the Duncan Emrich collection. The collection contains Emrich’s 1944 journal while he was at the Supreme Headquarters of the Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF), as well as humorous documents composed during the war as jokes. As historian for SHAEFF, Emrich collected Eisenhower’s orders of the day, a portion of a final report, maps of Normandy, copies of the War Times, a copy of the articles of surrender, and a memo concerning the Battle of the Bulge. Furthermore, during Emrich’s time in France from 1944-1945, he collected many Nazi propaganda and underground resistance posters. The collection contains several of the original posters and fliers as well as photo reproductions of the posters, which were later included in a 1945 exhibit.
