			<head>Scope and Contents</head>
			<p>Composed of correspondence, reports, a song, and a newspaper clipping, the New Orleans, Louisiana, Papers, 1842, 1864, 1870-1875, 1910, 1938, document the history of New Orleans during its antebellum, Civil War, and reconstruction phases. A letterpress and bound volume of correspondence belonging to J. F. Morse, the superintendent of the New Orleans Customhouse, concern repairs and alterations to the Customhouse building (1870-1875). A military report penned by Benjamin F. Butler recounts the taking of New Orleans by the United States fleet on November 8, 1864, as well as the hanging of Union soldier W. H. Mumford on May 5, 1864, while a 1910 report describes the 1842 mutiny on board of the Texas schooner-of-war the <emph render="italic">San Antonio</emph>. Additionally, the collection includes a song concerning the capture of New Orleans in 1862, and a clipping from the newspaper <emph render="italic">Weekly Picayune</emph> regarding current events in Texas (1938).</p>
