Biographical Note
The Hill family were early settlers of Texas and includes Asa Hill and James Monroe Hill fought in the Texas Revolution. Descendant George Alfred Hill greatly researched his family history and was president of Houston Oil Company. He was also as a founder of the San Jacinto Museum of History and served as president of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. Another descendent represented in the papers, Robert T. Hill was an esteemed geologist in the University of Texas Bureau of Economic Geology.

Scope and Contents
The collection is comprised of the papers of the Hill and Milam families and relates to the activities and business of family members. Family-related materials include correspondence between 1838-1931 and 1955-1957, material related to genealogy of the Goodlow family, trips taken by the Hill and Milam families, and financial papers. The collection also includes photographs of the Hills and Milams and associated families and places.
Some of the papers relate to geology, including correspondence and notes about geological studies and mineral surveys of the University of Texas. Newspapers clippings pertaining to mining and geology are also included, as well as geological maps.
The records also relate to Austin High School and University of Texas, including publications of those two institutions and assorted printed material related to student activities and coursework.
