Wesley Gibson Gish (1896-1985) was a
petroleum geologist and oil company executive. Gish’s worked as a field
geologist at White Eagle Oil and Refining Company from 1922-1924. He then moved
to Sinclair Oil and Gas Company from 1925-1936 where he worked as Chief
Geologist, Division Superintendent and Vice-President. His primary
responsibility at Sinclair was overseeing leases and properties in the East
Texas oil field from the Tyler, Texas office. He served as Transwestern Oil
Company’s Vice-President from 1937-1946 and as Vice-President of Deep Rock Oil
and Refining Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma for three years. Gish continued his
work in the oil and gas industry as an independent consultant from 1951-1967.
Gish was a charter member of the Kansas Geological Society and the
American Institute of Professional Geologists and a member of the American
Association of Petroleum Geologists, the American Geological Association and
the South Texas Geological Society.

work in the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and his personal
life. The collection is rich in its coverage of the Texas oil business in the
1930s. Included are materials on company policies; employee and public
relations; research notes, field notes, and well reports on oil fields in the
Southwest; legal documents, leases, and other material from Gish's lawsuit
against Shell; photographs of Texas oil fields and executive turkey hunts;
maps, plates, and printed material on oil fields.
