Robert L. Hardgrave is the Louann and Larry Temple Centennial Professor Emeritus in the Humanities at the University of Texas at Austin, specializing in the domestic and international politics of South Asia. Hardgrave grew up in West Texas and attended UT for his Bachelors Degree and the University of Chicago for his Masters Degree and Doctorate in Political Science. He taught at Oberlin College in 1966 before leaving to teach at UT from 1967 until his retirement in 2001.
The Robert L. Hardgrave Collection, 1952-1956, consists of six letters received by Hardgrave from Texas Governors, Allan Shivers and Price Daniel, as well as Speaker of the House, Sam Rayburn. In the letters, all three men respond to Hardgrave’s inquiries regarding career advice, an autograph request, the McCarthy censure debate, and employment opportunities.
