A Guide to the John J. Sullivan Newspaper Carriers Collection, 1856-1863
Scope and ContentsCollection contains thirteen newspaper carriers’ addresses from New York State, dating from 1856 to 1863. Traditionally published in newspapers on New Years Day, carriers’ addresses are long, often anonymous poems that review the events of the past year. Newspapers included in the collection are: the Atlas and Argus (Albany), Evening Mirror (New York), Hudson Daily and Weekly Star, New York Daily Times, New York Herald, New York Times, New York Tribune, and Troy Daily Whig.
