Biographical Note
Marie Hough Borden (1866-1962) voluntarily fundraised for leprosy missions. Her husband Abel Pierce Borden, nephew of Jonathan Edwards Pierce and Abel Head "Shanghai" Pierce, co-managed A. H. Pierce’s land and cattle enterprise after his death with Pierce's daughter Mamie Whithers and widow Hattie Jones Pierce. In 1906 Borden made a famed trip to India for Brahman cattle, which were quarantined until President Theodore Roosevelt intervened to have the disease free cattle shipped to Texas.

The Mrs. Abel Pierce (Marie Hough) Borden Papers, 1895-1973, contains correspondence, printed material, financial and business records, diaries, notebooks, guest and address books, and scrapbooks, which relate to Borden's fundraising activities for leprosy missions and the A. P. Borden cattle business.
