Pierce’s land and cattle enterprise after his death with Pierce's daughter Mamie Whithers and widow Hattie Jones Pierce. In 1906 Borden made a famed trip to India for Brahman cattle, which were quarantined until President Theodore Roosevelt intervened to have the disease free cattle shipped to Texas.
