Creator Sketch

Will Van Overbeek was born in California in 1955. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1978, where he studied under photographer Garry Winogrand. His photography has been published in numerous magazines, including Texas Monthly, Time, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, Smithsonian, and American Way.

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of black and white prints of a majority of the images that appeared in Van Overbeek's book Aggies: Life in the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M (Austin: Texas Monthly Press, 1982), focusing on cadets in the corps from 1980 to 1982 and including dorm life, inspections and drills, dances, hazing, football games, the Aggie Band, final review, and graduation ceremonies.
