Etcher and watercolorist Elizabeth
Estella Keefer (1899-1989) married Mody C. Boatright in 1931. She was the first
white woman granted permission to sketch on reservations in northern New
Mexico, becoming known as the "Etcher of
Indians". After moving to Austin in 1932, she continued to paint and
taught classes in town. After her husband's death, Elizabeth moved to Corpus
Christi, where she resided and painted until her death.
