	 <head>Creator Sketch</head><p>Born in
		<geogname>Wilmington, Ohio</geogname>,
<persname>Edwin Smith Savage </persname>(1893-1964) attended the
University of Texas, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
in 1920. Although he subsequently held jobs in various states, he maintained
his involvement with the University. During the 1940s he was President of the
<geogname> New York City</geogname>/northern New Jersey Texas Exes. In
1942 he drove to Austin with a friend and took extensive slides of the
university campus and buildings. He showed these slides to Texas-Exes in New
		York City. </p>

	 <head>Scope and Contents</head>
<p>This collection consists of lantern slides taken by Mr. Savage on the
main campus of the University of Texas at
<geogname>Austin</geogname> and in surrounding areas in 1942. Among the
buildings pictured are B Hall, Waggener Hall. Garrison Hall, Hogg Auditorium
and the Texas Memorial Museum, the Physics Building, the UT Tower and the Texas
state capitol. The presence of numerous slides of dormitories and fraternity
houses probably reflects the photographer’s knowledge of his intended audience.
Included in the collection is a hand-written checklist of subjects that does
not entirely correspond to the arrangement of the slides themselves. Some
slides are also identified on the slide mounts.</p>
