A Guide to the Louanne Pulliam Photographs, ca. 1970-1980
Creator SketchLouanne Pulliam is a documentary photographer who was living in San Antonio, Texas in 1987. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and ContentsPhotographs by Louanne Pulliam document the 1970s in Southeast Texas, particularly Galveston and Houston. Galveston images ( 1978-1980) feature scenes of the sea-wall, beaches, buildings, and downtown, including scenes of flooding and fog. Many depict adults and children, particularly African Americans, in recreational situations. Houston images feature a number of cafe and stadium concerts with musicians such as Michael Murphy, Boz Scaggs, Stephen Stills, David Crosby, and the Beach Boys. Other Houston images are predominantly of persons and scenes at Memorial Park, in the downtown area, and of diners at Walgreens and the Harvest Moon Cafe. Galveston- Houston area photographs include beach scenes at Bolivar Peninsula and Kemah, high school basketball games in Winnie, and Gilley's Bar in Pasadena. Several Austin-area photographs of a Willie Nelson picnic feature Willie Nelson and Leon Russell. Arranged geographically by city.
