A Guide to the Coke H. Dilworth Photograph Collection, 1972-1977
Born in 1936, Coke H. Dilworth is a fourth-generation Austinite who graduated from the University of Texas School of Architecture. In 1972 he established a business called The Darkroom that offered film processing to photographers who did not have their own. He was also the "default" photographer for the Armadillo World Headquarters from 1972 -1978. The "AWHQ" music hall was opened in 1970 by Eddie Wilson, manager of the psychedelic rock band Shiva's Headband, on the site of a former National Guard armory in south Austin. The hall held about 1,500 people. The venue became iconic of Austin's unique hippie-bohemian music scene.
