Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Giesecke resided in
Brenham, Texas during the late 1800s and early 1900s. They had five children:
Kurt, Erna, Leo, Bruno, and Manfred. Kurt and his wife, Ella, and their
daughter, Lynette, lived in Mexico between 1904 and 1911. Leo Giesecke also
briefly resided in Mexico and served in the military during this same period.
Erna was a teacher and lived in and around Hunstville, Texas. Bruno and Manfred
lived in and around Houston, Texas.
The Giesecke Family papers are comprised
of family letters written between 1900 and 1913. Most of the letters are
written in German; a bulk of which have been translated into English. A
majority of the correspondence is between Mrs. H.L. Giesecke (Mama or Anna[?])
and her children. There is a substantial amount of letters to Erna Giesecke
from various family and friends. Letters detail daily life in Mexico, as well
as family and business affairs. There is brief mention of the Mexican
Revolution in some of the letters. Also contained are photographs taken in
Mexico.
