		<head>Biographical Note</head><p>The identity of photographer and creator
		  of the photo album is unknown. He was a sailor and served on the
		  <emph render="italic">USS Milwaukee</emph> in the 1920s. The
		  <emph render="italic">Milwaukee</emph> was an Omaha-class cruiser in the US
		  Navy, which was commissioned in 1923. This ship explored the South Pacific
		  between the world wars, gathering oceanographic data about the Pacific Ocean.
		  During World War II, the <emph render="italic">Milwaukee</emph> served on the
		  South Atlantic Patrol Force and later was transferred to the Soviet Navy. </p> 
		<p>Corporal Dewey T. Reno served in the U. S. Navy. During 1950 and 1951,
		  he was recovering from skin graft surgery at a variety of medical centers. He
		  was brother to Mrs. Ethel Oakley of Sulphur, Oklahoma.</p>

		<p>With photographs and postcards, this U.S. Navy Collection documents
		  the travels of the <emph render="italic">USS Milwaukee</emph> in the 1920s in
		  Central America, the South Pacific and Far East, and the life of Cpl. Dewey T.
		  Reno from 1950 to 1951 in Lone Wolf, OK, San Francisco, CA, and El Paso, TX. It
		  records the daily activities of US Navy sailors, primarily off duty, but both
		  at sea and in port. Some individual sailors are identified. Printed materials
		  include a newspaper clipping, programs, tickets, and two typescript poems:
		  "Aintcha Ever Gonna Write?" and "The Prayer of a Sailor." </p>
