The University of Texas College of Engineering was founded in 1894, although T. U. Taylor taught engineering classes beginning in 1888. A department of Civil Engineering was established in 1903, and other departments were established later. Since 1957 the Engineering Foundation Advisory Council has named Distinguished Graduates. The council chooses from nominees selected by alumni, council members and faculty of the College of Engineering. Distinguished Graduates are recognized for their outstanding professional record, public service, support of education, and significant achievements.

Scope and Contents:

This collection consists of photographs in 8 x 10 and smaller formats (primarily black and white), black and white negatives 4 x 5 inches and smaller formats, over-size black and white contact sheets and a photo album. The photographs are primarily formal portraits of Distinguished Graduates from the College of Engineering; the photographs in the Album and the negatives similarly are all formal portraits of Distinguished Graduates. The "Graduation and Awards" series and the "Assorted" series contain candid photographs. Items are organized alphabetically within each series, with unidentified images at the end.
