Biographical Note

Benson was a wreckmaster of Corpus Christi and Nueces County, collecting and disposing of goods found on the beach or off shore resulting from wrecks off the coast of Nueces County. He also held other civic offices, including sheriff, health officer, constable, deputy city marshall, and deputy sanitary inspector.

Correspondence, reports, receipts, bonds, and commissions of Benson document his activities in the collection and disposal of goods found on the beach or off shore resulting from wrecks off the coast of Nueces County. Included are the records of the wrecks of the steamer Reindeer and the schooner Benjamin Jones.
