	 <head>Scope and Contents</head><p>Volume contains Bailey's correspondence
		with John H. Reagan and Walter B. Hill in his effort to clarify Abraham
		Lincoln's stand on compensation to slave owners for voluntarily emancipated
		slaves as supposedly voiced at the Hampton Roads Conference of 3 February 1865.
		Walter B. Hill was chancellor of the University of Georgia when he wrote an
		article for The Youth's Companion concerning Abraham Lincoln's stand on
		compensation for slaves. Papers also contain newspaper clippings by and about
		Hill concerning reconciliation of North and South.</p>
