Historical Note

Armstrong was married and owned land in Mississippi before coming to Texas. He was a farmer on 400 acres in the old Gravel Hill community in Florence, Texas, located in northwest Williamson County, and father of eight children. The son went to Washington to begin his own life and one daughter died at nineteen. After his death in 1925, six girls remained on the farm, unmarried, operating in all areas, including gardening, chickens (eggs), cotton, and livestock (cattle and goats).

Scope and Contents

Collection bulks with financial documents and 9 ledgers (1890-1957) which document the operation of the farm by Armstrong and, later, by his daughters. Other materials include correspondence, ledgers, bank records, deeds, photographs, a memo book, and scrapbook materials.
