A Guide to the J.W. Armstrong Papers, 1893-1910
Biographical NoteSan Antonio businessman J. W. Armstrong served as trustee and secretary of the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Town Site Company. This real estate development business was owned by Mifflin Kenedy, president, and Uriah Lott, vice-president, in connection with their San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway, completed in 1881. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and ContentsBusiness correspondence (1895-1910) and financial records (1900-1909) of San Antonio businessman J. W. Armstrong relate primarily to the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Town Site Company, of which he served as trustee and secretary. Also included is a bound volume of copies of deeds executed in Bexar County by them and by Kenedy's son John G. Kenedy for lots sold by the firm, primarily in Bee, DeWitt, Falls, Karnes, Lee, and Nueces Counties along the rail route (1893-1897). Other papers relate to the Sam Maverick estate of which Armstrong served as trustee in 1901. 1909 newspaper clipping contains an obituary of George A. Hodges, Sr., editor of the Lott (Texas) Clarion, agent for the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Town Site Company, and a principal business associate of Armstrong.
