	 <head>Scope and Contents</head><p>Some materials relate to the 1944 firing
		of University of Texas president Homer P. Rainey by the board of regents, the
		ensuing actions of the faculty, and the issue of academic freedom. One group of
		papers consists of academic research notes and drafts of literary productions
		on Thomas A. Hickey and the history of labor and socialism in Texas by Ruth A.
		Allen. One item includes a 1973 profile of University of Texas regent Edward A.
		Clark and a speech by Clark on the University of Texas. Photographs depict
		houses of African American cotton pickers in Texas in the 1920's. Papers
		organized into three series by office of origin: 1. University of Texas
		Faculty; 2. University of Texas Faculty Committee on Principles Essential to
		University Administration (Committee of Eleven); and 3. Ruth Alice Allen,
		Professor of Economics. Subseries organized by type of material arranged
		chronologically.</p>
