A Guide to the Harvey Alexander Adams Papers, circa 1840-1843, 1849, 1889
Scope and ContentsReminiscences, diary and letter of early Fayette County pioneer Harvey Alexander Adams (1812-1895). Includes recollections of childhood and young manhood in Providence, Rhode Island and Ohio (Carthage, Columbus, Licking County); journey to New Orleans and descriptions of physical geography and culture of New Orleans and vicinity in 1836; journey to Texas, Indian menace and descriptions, particularly of the Nacogdoches area. Personal reminiscences end about 1837 to be replaced by a summary of the Texas Revolution and the course of Texas history to about 1840. Diary recounts events of the Somervell Expedition (1842-1843) with descriptions of San Antonio and Laredo. Appended is a letter from Thomas Washington Cox describing the Mier Expedition.
