A Guide to the Charles Francis Adams Letters, 1858
Biographical NoteCharles Francis Adams was born in 1807 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the son of John Quincy Adams and the grandson of John Adams. He served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives and Senate, the United States Congress and as United States Minister to Great Britain. Adams also ran unsuccessfully for Vice-president with Martin Van Buren. He died in 1886 and is buried in Quincy, Massachusetts. Scope and ContentsTwo letters, one from Adams to J. Colburn [?] to reserve “a copy of the work of Mr. Hickox,” and one from Solomon Lincoln to Boston historian John Wingate Thornton (1818-1878) requesting that Thornton examine some publications once belonging to Mrs. Adams’ father and others.
