A Guide to the J. J. Person Mercantile Business Records, 1871-1876
Business records of Padelford in Edwards, Hinds County, Mississippi, consist of four ledgers. Two journals containing daily entries for merchandise sold include buyers' names, items purchased, account numbers, and prices. They also contain accounts of cotton purchased by Padelford. An account book with an alphabetical index contains a record of the cumulative purchases found in the journals. A fourth ledger is a cash book recording purchases of the store.
