Scope and Contents

Account book and day book of J. J. Person and his son James W. Person contains records of a mercantile store in Port Gibson, Claiborne County, Mississippi. The account book contains itemized lists of purchases for 1875 and 1876 under the name of the account. The day book records expenditures for lumber, freight, insurance, flatboats, and other items. Person may have been a business partner of F. F. Myles, also of Port Gibson. “P.M. & co.” is written on the fly leaf, and page 234 in the day book has an entry for “Person Myles and company.”
