Creator Sketch

The A. H. Belo Corporation is named for pioneer Texas newspaper publisher Alfred Horatio Belo (1839-1901).


Scope and Contents

Photographs document 19th century Texas, including the first faculty of the University of Texas at Austin (1883); images of Austin, Texas; sculling on the Colorado River; and portraits of noted and notorious people who lived or spent time in Texas in that period. The majority of the negatives are glass and are housed separately from the corresponding contact prints.

A later accession to the collection includes printed materials related to the Dallas Historical Society, Dealey Plaza and George Bannerman Dealey and an oral history by George Bannerman Dealey.
