John Matthias Kuehne (1872-1960) was a
Physics professor at the University of Texas at Austin from 1909 to 1951. He
was a pioneer in researching the relationship between magnetism and
electricity, helped found the McDonald Observatory, and taught the first
photography class at UT in 1908.

Kuehne's photographic work includes many
images of the UT campus, Austin, and Central Texas. Among his autochromes are
perhaps the earliest color views of UT. Trips to Yellowstone and Yosemite
National Parks and the Orient are well-documented. The collection also contains
Kuehne's 1949/1950 photography course guide.
