Biographical Note

Amy Jo Long began her career at the University of Texas at Austin News and Information Service (now known as the Office of Public Affairs) in 1951. She served as its director from 1969 until her retirement in 1985.

After receiving her bachelor’s degree in 1941 at Texas Wesleyan College, Long worked as a reporter for the Fort Worth Press from 1942 to 1947 and served as a local stringer for Time, Life, and Fortune magazines. She received her master’s degree in journalism from UT in 1952.

After her retirement from the university, Long was elected to the board of directors of the University Federal Credit Union, serving from 1985 to 1987. From 1988 to 1991, she edited the quarterly newsletter of the University Retired Faculty Staff Association.

Long died in Austin, Texas on December 7, 2010.
