Biographical Note

Atkins Jefferson McLemore (1857-1929) was born in Maury County, Tennessee and moved to Texas in 1878. After a career in Corpus Christi, Austin, and Houston as a journalist and newspaper editor, McLemore served as a Democrat in the Texas House of Representatives from 1892 to 1896 and in the United States House of Representatives from 1915 to 1919.
