		<head>Scope and Contents</head> 
		<p>The collection consists of original manuscript letters mostly written
		  by brothers Alfred and John Guild describing their travels and experiences in
		  Texas. Includes an eyewitness account of an attack by the Mexican ship
		  <emph render="italic">Correo</emph> and commentary on the Texas Independence
		  movement.</p> 
		<p>The bulk of the letters are addressed to the brothers' father and
		  sister in Dedham, Massachusetts.</p> 
		<p>Also includes important early letter written from Houston, Texas,
		  describing the difficult financial conditions in Texas.</p>
