Biographical/Historical Note

After beginning his career collecting ephemera, New York-based collector Alan L. Paris expanded his focus to news photography in the 1990s. Over the course of 20 years, Paris gathered over 10,000 iconic news photographs from former photo editors and military memorabilia collectors on a diverse range of subjects including world leaders and the American political scene; wars and the military; space exploration; the civil rights movement; and the fall of the Berlin Wall. Photographs collected by Paris reside in the permanent collections of several major museums and have been exhibited at SF MOMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and the J.P. Morgan Library. The Briscoe Center acquired Paris's photojournalism collection in 2015.
