TABLE OF CONTENTS |
A Guide to the Rufus Chandler Papers, 1841-1884.
Scope and ContentsCorrespondence, transcripts of correspondence, and newspapers document the life and death of Rufus Chandler. The majority of the material contains Chandler's correspondence to his family in Maine in which he provides accounts of his travels, being a solider in the War with Mexico, and his struggle to start a law practice in Rusk, Texas after the war. Two letters from J.A. Clark to Chandler's sister, Rachel Reed, and newspaper stories in the Rusk Pioneer provide accounts of Chandler's death. Transcripts of Chandler's correspondence were created in 1955 by Mary E. M. Smith. Return to the Table of Contents
