	 <head>Scope and Contents</head>
<p>The bulk of the collection is comprised of letters written by Private
		Alec C. Stein to Miss
<persname>Anne Skolnick</persname>, while he was stationed at
<geogname>Camp Hulen, Texas</geogname>, from January to December 1941.
The letters contain descriptions of mundane aspects of army life, including
food, housing and lingo, as well as the difficulty of being away from home, and
the impact of these conditions on Stein and his fellow soldiers. Stein also
touches on other problems of soldiers, including depression, promiscuity and
alcoholism. Letters from December 1941-January 1942 cover the period of time
		that Stein was stationed in
<geogname>Crockett, California</geogname>. There is also one letter from
Anne Skolnick to Stein, while he was stationed at
		<geogname>Camp Davis</geogname> in
		<geogname>North Carolina</geogname>, in July 1942.</p>
