 Biographical Note

Mary Austin Holley (1784-1846) was a teacher and the cousin of Stephen F. Austin. Born and raised in Connecticut, she lived in Louisiana, Kentucky and Texas. She is credited with writing the first history of Texas in English. She aroused sympathy for Texas during the Texas Revolution and worked for Texas annexation. She died of yellow fever in 1846.

Scope and Contents

Correspondence, diary, notes and literary productions relate to Mary Austin Holley's life in Connecticut, Louisiana, Kentucky and Texas, and the history of Texas. Also included is the last will and testament of Stephen F. Austin, 1833.
