He practiced medicine in Schulenburg, Houston, and Flatonia in addition to serving as a volunteer doctor in Africa, Central America, and Asia.  In addition to his four books (<title render="italic">Yesterday's Seasons</title>, <title render="italic">The Third Face of War</title>, <title render="italic">Schweitzer: Shadow of a Star</title>, and <title render="italic">MIKE</title>) Gene Schulze published poems, short stories, essays, some of them in Texas-based publications.  His book, The Third Face of War, won the Texas Institute of Letters' Carr P. Collins Award for the best non-fiction book of 1970.  Gene Schulze was an enthusiastic rancher as well as an equally enthusiastic doctor and writer.</p></bioghist><scopecontent encodinganalog="520"><head>Scope and Contents</head><p>Collection is comprised primarily of manuscripts of Schulze's published books and unpublished manuscripts.
