		  R. L. Day was a resident of De Leon, Texas.</p>

		<head>Scope and Contents</head><p>Consists of one print of a pen and ink
		  drawing. The subject is “The American Shield.” It contains the words “In God We
		  Trust,” “Patriotism,” and “Home.” The design includes a set of symbolic birds
		  representing the wars that the United States had been in up to 1924, a bird’s
		  nest with eggs representing home and a large star that the legend on the back
		  of the image says refers to the face of Christ. Other birds in the image are
		  symbolic of various events and ideas essential to the foundation of the United
		  States as this artist saw it.</p>
