The Natchez Trace Broadside Collection,
1785-1930, consists of broadsides that represent legal, social, political,
commercial, and military issues thought to be of such importance that they
needed to be shared with the public before the advent of mass communication.
These public notices are not only instant reflections of an historic time and
place and therefore important to history researchers, but they are also
outstanding examples of early frontier printing history. The bulk of the
broadsides come from Louisiana and Mississippi, but also represented are
Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Missouri, New
Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas,
Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Canada.
