A Guide to the F. Burton Jones Papers, 1906-1999

Biographical Note

Jones was raised in Albany, Texas and attended the University of Texas at Austin where he completed his doctoral thesis under the direction of R. L. Moore in 1935. He was a topologist who worked in continua and in abstract spaces and originated the famous normal Moore space problem. Jones' primary teaching posts were at the University of Texas at Austin, the University of North Carolina and the University of California at Riverside. During his career, he published over 40 mathematical papers.

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of the correspondence, research material, personal documents of F. Burton Jones (1910-1999), as well as books and reprints by other mathematicians that he collected during his career.
