The Texas Poster Art Collection represents the work of over thirty
graphic artists whose posters document the music scene in Austin from 1966 to
the present. Donated by the artists themselves, these posters are mostly
concert annoucements or other musical promotionals for Austin clubs and bands.
The earliest posters reflect the San Francisco "psychedelic" style used by
Gilbert Shelton, Jim Franklin, and others for the Vulcan Gas Company. The
latest posters include the faceted, multi-colored designs of Guy Juke. In
between are nearly two decades of inspired design that weds music and the
graphic arts.
